- How much funding can I request?
- While we have not instituted a hard funding cap at this point in time, we recommend that you break down the proposed research into the smallest chunks possible. There will be opportunities for follow on funding so starting small if you can will make the process quicker. Feel free to reach out to [email protected] to ask any questions before you submit.
- Can some of the funding cover overhead costs at my university / research institution?
- Yes, though it depends. We are not restricting any particular overhead cost upfront - each will be reviewed on an ad hoc basis. We understand that academic researchers may have research overhead imposed by their university that they must write into any grant. Generally speaking, we prefer that our funding goes towards activities or covering related costs (tech, materials, etc.).
- Can you provide more color on what kind of milestone and budget breakdowns you’d like to see?
- The requested format is:
- Milestone # - activities / outputs / outcomes marking completion of the first outcome - % budget payout upon completing
- Unless your grant and scope of activities is very small, you should have at least 2-3 milestones. The larger the budget request, the more milestones should be included. There is no fixed rule on the number of milestones per dollar of budget request, budgets and milestones will be assessed on an ad hoc basis.
- It is important to note that prior to any grant getting accepted, there will be an interview with the Grants Lead and/or someone who has reviewed the grant. As part of this interview, the budget and milestones will be reviewed and rescoped as necessary. That’s a long-winded way of saying, don’t stress too much about making it perfect as there will be a chance to revise this.
- If I have questions during the process, who can I ask for help?
- If you have any questions pertaining to a potential or existing applications, feel free to email [email protected].
- Can I apply for more than one grant?
- Each individual form submitted should be for a single grant application.
- If you are interested in submitting multiple grants (e.g. one research grant and one educational grant, or any other combination of different grants), you are welcome to do so.
- If you are interested in applying for multiple grants within a single category (e.g. two research grants), you are welcome to do so but we strongly recommend submitting what you see as the strongest application first and hearing back prior to submitting a second. To be clear, we are not restricting multiple submissions though recommend starting with one and going from there.
- If in doubt, reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
